Avalanche hazard in Transcarpathia: State Emergency Service warns tourists.
According to ТСН: In the coming days, from January 2 to 4, there is a risk of snow avalanches in the mountains. Tourists engaging in extreme sports and hiking are asked to be particularly cautious when planning their routes.
Rescuers in Transcarpathia warn of avalanche danger. The State Emergency Service urges people in the mountains not to lose vigilance. Although the overall level of threat is assessed as moderate, in some places the situation can be dangerous.
Where and when is it dangerous
According to the Ukrainian Hydro-meteorological Center, the warning is in effect from January 2 to 4. The main risk area is the highlands of the eastern part of the Transcarpathian region.
The first level of avalanche danger (low) has been officially declared.
What is the catch
Rescuers explain that a low level of danger does not mean the complete absence of threat.
Avalanches of medium strength may occur on steep slopes. The main risk factor is additional load.
This means that the snow mass can break loose due to:
active movement of tourist groups;
skiing or snowboarding off-piste;
work of machinery on the slopes.
“If you are going hiking — consider this information when planning routes. Be cautious!”
It is also worth noting that on the weekends, January 3–4, temperature fluctuations are expected in Ukraine. In some regions of the country, wet snow is possible, along with frosts and strong winds.
This warning is important for everyone planning to spend time in the mountainous area, as even a low level of danger can lead to serious consequences. Tourists should pay attention to changes in weather conditions and exercise caution during their activities in the mountains.
