Kyiv Mayor Klychko Reports 300 Apartment Buildings Still Without Heating.
Heating Crisis in Kyiv
According to TSN.ua: As of January 15, 2023, approximately 300 multi-story residential buildings in Kyiv remain without central heating. This follows a large-scale attack on January 9 that initially left a total of 6,000 buildings without heat. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that the city's overall energy supply situation remains extremely difficult. This disruption is part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure during the winter months.
In response to the heating outages, more than 1,200 emergency heating shelters have been activated across the capital, providing residents with warmth and refuge. Municipal utility crews are working continuously to restore normal service, but the situation remains tense. Klitschko has urged Kyiv's residents to stay vigilant and follow official safety recommendations to endure these challenging conditions.
Strain on Damaged Energy Infrastructure
The ongoing crisis highlights the severe strain on Kyiv's energy infrastructure, which has sustained significant damage from military strikes. With falling temperatures and increased demand for heat, it is critical for residents to know where to find assistance and shelter.
- Over 1,200 heating shelters are operational in the capital.
- Roughly 300 apartment buildings are still without heating.
- A total of 6,000 buildings were affected by the initial outage.
Restoring heat to residents must remain a top priority for local authorities amid the harsh winter conditions.
