According to the Russian resource 'Supernova', the attack was aimed at the chemical enterprise 'Nevinnomyssk Azot', which is one of the largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers and ammonia in the country.

The 'Nevinnomyssk Azot' enterprise was founded in 1962 and is located in Nevinnomyssk. It is the largest producer of chemical products in southern Russia, specializing in the production of mineral fertilizers and organic synthesis products.'Nevinnomyssk Azot' is equipped with the only installations in Russia for the production of methyl acetate and high-purity acetic acid, as well as the first plant in the country for the production of melamine. A new production of potassium nitrate is planned to be launched at the enterprise in 2024.
