Ukraine has preliminarily identified the deceased defender whose head was severed by the occupiers.
Photos from Russian media have begun circulating online, showing the severed head of a Ukrainian soldier. The Commissioner for Missing Persons, Artur Dobroserdov, reported that the identity of the deceased has already been established. The Secretariat of the Commissioner has contacted the National Police to find the military's relatives and conduct an investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident and the location of the body.
The Department for Missing Persons also reported violations of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation.
The statement requests to refrain from spreading unverified information and to trust only official sources. All war crimes are documented and forwarded to international legal institutions to determine the responsibility of the aggressor country.
It is noted that more than 49 criminal cases regarding the murder of over 124 Ukrainian prisoners of war on the battlefield are currently under investigation.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN regarding photos of a suspected Ukrainian prisoner of war whose head and limbs were severed.
