Ukraine Urges Strikes on Shahed Drone Factories in Russia; Melnik Declares Targets Legitimate.
Ukraine Calls for Escalated Military Support
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine has pressed its Western allies to ramp up military assistance in order to more effectively hit Russian facilities that produce Shahed drones. Andriy Melnyk, Ukraine’s permanent representative, underscored the urgency of this backing in light of the military collaboration between Russia and Iran, which he described as a threat to global security.
Since Russia began deploying Shahed drones in February 2022, the situation on the battlefield has grown considerably more challenging. Melnyk also pointed out that Russia has supplied Iran with attack helicopters, a move that violates UN restrictions. This development highlights the depth of cooperation between the two nations and the need for decisive action by the international community.
Ukraine’s Actions and International Support
To bolster its efforts, Ukraine has sent hundreds of specialists to Gulf states to assist in defending against drone attacks. A key moment came on March 24, 2023, when Russia launched one of its most intense aerial assaults on Ukrainian territory, further destabilizing the region.
Andriy Melnyk emphasized that 'as a result, Russian drone production sites should be considered legitimate targets for military strikes in the campaign against the mullahs’ regime.'
He also noted that 'providing Ukraine with deep-strike capabilities and helping to scale up our domestic production of long-range missiles will support collective efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.'
These statements reflect the growing need to intensify international efforts against the threats posed by Russian-Iranian military cooperation, as well as the importance of supporting Ukraine in its defensive operations. Increasing military aid to Ukraine would not only strengthen its defenses but could also shift the regional balance of power, prompting more resolute action from the global community to ensure stability and security in the Middle East.
