Ukraine’s Role in the Middle East: Latest Developments

According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian forces will not engage in combat operations in the Middle East, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed. Instead, they will offer expert guidance on defending against Iranian drones. As part of a partnership with Gulf nations, Ukrainian air defense specialists are conducting training sessions, providing consultations, and taking part in joint manufacturing and investment efforts.

Currently, around 210 to 220 Ukrainian air defense experts are stationed in Middle Eastern countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Their mission is to advise on countering drone attacks, sharing knowledge gained from protecting against aerial threats.

“We are not discussing them taking part in another war. We have enough of our own war.”

- Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy noted that 'all these areas will be utilized' and that 'we are discussing all these issues.' In this way, Ukraine continues to actively cooperate with regional countries, offering critical security expertise.

This initiative reflects Ukraine’s drive to strengthen its standing on the global stage, particularly in the context of bolstering regional security in the Middle East. Collaboration with Gulf states could deepen ties between Ukraine and these nations, while also highlighting the value of Ukrainian air defense experience, which has become especially relevant amid modern threats. Ukrainian know-how may prove essential in addressing emerging security challenges in the region.
