Pay Increase for Ukrainian Teachers

According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian teachers are set to receive a 30% salary increase starting January 1, 2026. The government has allocated the necessary funds in the 2026 state budget to implement this initiative. This comes as part of a broader effort to support the education sector during a challenging period. The educational subvention, which includes the funds for the raise, amounts to 10.37 billion hryvnias, all designated for teacher supplements.

Supplemental Payments for Educators

Under the new terms, over 409,000 educators will receive these supplemental payments. Each teaching professional will get a supplement of 2,000 hryvnias (2,600 hryvnias before taxes). Separate, higher supplements are planned for teachers working in frontline areas, amounting to 4,000 hryvnias (5,200 hryvnias before taxes). Currently, more than 25,500 educators work in these regions.

Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi emphasized the importance of this decision, stating: 'This is a crucial moment, as the state's decision to raise pay is now moving from budget figures to real money for people.'

According to the plans, teachers' salaries will be increased by a further 20% starting September 1, 2026.

These steps to improve the financial standing of educators in Ukraine are expected to positively impact the education sector and teacher motivation. The salary increases represent a significant move in the context of modernizing education and creating conditions to attract new personnel, especially in difficult regions. This could also contribute to improving the quality of education in the country, given the crucial role teachers play in shaping the future generation.
