High-Speed Rail Link Between Kharkiv and Kyiv Suspended

According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian Railways has suspended direct high-speed service between Kharkiv and Kyiv due to ongoing hostilities. Passengers learned of the schedule changes late last evening. Train No. 723, which was scheduled to depart Kharkiv for Kyiv on March 18 at 1:12 PM, will no longer operate.

The restrictions apply to all Intercity trains heading to Kharkiv. These measures take effect on March 18. The decision follows an escalation in danger, underscored by a recent Russian drone strike on a passenger train that occurred on March 14.

“Due to the impact of combat operations, the operation of Intercity train No. 723 Kharkiv - Kyiv is temporarily restricted from Poltava-Pivdenna station,” Ukrainian Railways stated.

A representative of the Southern Railway also confirmed the news, saying: “This is indeed true.”

Passenger Safety Prioritized

Amid active warfare and threats to passenger security, Ukrainian Railways has been forced to take these steps to ensure travelers' safety. Passengers are advised to monitor train schedule updates and account for potential changes linked to the situation in the country.

The cancellation of routes between Kharkiv and Kyiv is part of Ukrainian Railways' broader strategy to protect passengers under mounting military threats. These restrictions may affect mobility, especially for those traveling for work or study. It is crucial that travelers stay informed about current service changes and follow railway officials' guidance during these challenging circumstances.
