Yulia Tymoshenko Implicated in Bribery Scandal Involving 40 Lawmakers.
Yulia Tymoshenko at Center of Major Bribery Scandal
According to TSN.ua: Yulia Tymoshenko, a prominent Ukrainian political figure, is now a subject in a major corruption investigation over allegations of bribing lawmakers. As of early 2026, a total of 40 members of parliament are implicated in related anti-corruption cases, representing nearly one-tenth of the legislative body. Investigators report that bribes for votes ranged from $2,000 to $20,000, with some deputies allegedly receiving monthly payments of $10,000. This scandal highlights the persistent challenges of political corruption in Ukraine, a key issue for its Western partners.
Raids and Specific Allegations
Authorities launched a raid on the office of the 'Batkivshchyna' (Fatherland) party on January 13 at 9:55 PM, which lasted approximately 12 hours. It is known that 34 deputies from the 9th convocation of parliament have received formal suspicions or convictions. Notable cases include:
- Oleksandr Yurchenko from the 'Servant of the People' party allegedly sought $200,000 in 2020 for amendments to legislation;
- Suto Mamoyan from the 'Opposition Platform — For Life' party declared two Toyota Land Cruisers valued at 20,000 hryvnias each;
- Lyudmyla Marchenko, also from 'Servant of the People', is accused of accepting $5,300 to help men leave the country;
- Artur Gerasimov from 'European Solidarity' was found guilty of concealing ownership of a villa in Spain worth 252,000 euros.
The case concerning an organized criminal group within the Verkhovna Rada was uncovered by Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau in late December 2025.
Under Part 4 of Article 369 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, such crimes carry a penalty of five to ten years' imprisonment. Detectives stated, 'Every Ukrainian will instantly recognize the voice on the tapes.'
Igor Kolomoisky posed a rhetorical question: 'For 40 thousand [dollars], is all this fuss really worth disturbing an elderly woman?'
Consequently, the situation surrounding Tymoshenko and the 40 deputies has generated significant public outcry and demands a thorough investigation.
This anti-corruption scandal marks a pivotal moment in Ukrainian politics, underscoring deep-seated issues within the highest levels of power. With nearly a tenth of parliament under suspicion, public trust in state institutions and political parties is at stake. The ongoing investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau is likely to be a defining factor in shaping Ukraine's political landscape in the coming years.
