The Iranian government will open a psychiatric hospital for women who have chosen not to wear a hijab.
In Iran, a special clinic is planned for women who do not comply with the law regarding hijab in public places. This was reported by The Guardian.
Mehri Talebi Darestani, who heads the women's and family department of the Tehran headquarters for promoting virtue and preventing vice, announced the opening of a 'clinic for hijab removal treatment.' She explained that the clinic will provide 'scientific and psychological treatment for hijab removal.'
This news caused outrage among Iranian women's and human rights groups. Sima Sabet, a British journalist from Iran who was the victim of an assassination attempt last year, called this move 'shameful.'
'The idea of creating clinics for 'treating' women without hijabs is horrifying when people are separated from society simply for not conforming to the dominant ideology,' she stated.
Hosseyn Raisi, an Iranian human rights lawyer, believes that the idea of a clinic for treating women who do not comply with the hijab law is not Islamic and does not align with Iranian legislation. He is also concerned that the statement came from the Department of Women and Family of the Tehran headquarters for promoting virtue and preventing vice, which is under the direct supervision of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
It is worth noting that in April of this year, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Tehran, Hasan Hasanzadeh, announced the creation of a new law enforcement structure to enforce strict dress codes for women.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Afghanistan has banned women from reading the Quran aloud and praying in the presence of other women.
Additionally, a well-known Iranian human rights defender committed suicide in protest against the dictatorship of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
