The Kremlin Analyzes Plan to End the War: What the U.S. Conveyed Through a Special Envoy.
According to ТСН: The Kremlin conducted an analysis of the information received from the special envoy of the President of the Russian Federation, Kirill Dmitriev, who held negotiations with the American side in Miami regarding the conclusion of the war in Ukraine. This contact facilitated the establishment of connections between the administrations of Russia and the United States.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed this information, stating:
“At Putin's request, a contact between representatives of the administrations of Russia and the United States took place. Ushakov and several interlocutors from the White House participated in this contact. They agreed to continue the dialogue.”
Moreover, the Kremlin is reviewing documents related to the cessation of the Russo-Ukrainian war, which were handed to Putin by Dmitriev following his trip to the U.S. Peskov added:
“Moscow will continue communication with the Americans depending on the decisions made by Putin based on the analysis of the materials provided by Dmitriev.”
Previously, it was reported that the new Ukrainian-American peace plan presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky differs significantly from the previous document, which effectively forced Ukraine to concede territory and excluded NATO membership. The new proposal is a compromise and includes security guarantees for Kyiv, however, the Kremlin is likely to reject it, as emboldened by successes on the battlefield, Moscow will not be able to present the plan as a victory for the populace.
Moscow's Interest in Negotiations
Experts believe that Moscow is interested in negotiations as this allows them to maintain working relations with Washington and avoid accusations of prolonging the war. Furthermore, the Russians are trying to delay sanctions, as American restrictions against companies like Rosneft and Lukoil are forcing Russia to sell oil at significant discounts.
Continuation of Diplomatic Dialogues
Discussions regarding peace terms also underscore the differences between Ukraine and its Western allies. Analysts note that diplomatic negotiations regarding peaceful conditions will continue in parallel with the war.
American expert Zbigniew Brzezinski is convinced that Putin can only be forced to come to the negotiating table by two circumstances: the threat of losing territories or an agreement that allows for control over Ukraine.
These negotiations may indicate a change in approaches in international politics, as well as a desire from both countries to find ways to resolve the conflict. At the same time, such efforts may face difficulties due to the discrepancies in interests and demands of the participants. Time will tell whether it will be possible to reach an agreement or whether the conflict will remain unresolved.
