A Tragic Loss in Sumy

According to TSN.ua: A Ukrainian firefighter and rescuer, Pavlo Kolisnyk, has been killed after a Russian FPV drone struck his vehicle. The attack occurred as he was returning home following his shift. Kolisnyk, who had served since 1997, was a member of the 33rd State Fire and Rescue Unit of Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES) in the Sumy region. This incident highlights the persistent dangers faced by first responders in Ukraine's border regions, which are regularly targeted by Russian forces.

This tragedy represents another painful loss for Ukraine's emergency services. Oleg Hryhorov, an SES spokesperson, stated that

"Pavlo Mykolaiovych was on his way home after his duty when the drone hit his car."
He further emphasized that this is a
"painful and irreparable loss for the rescuers of Sumy region and the entire family of Ukraine's SES."
In his tribute, Hryhorov added, "Eternal memory and honor to the unarmed Hero."

Mounting Dangers for First Responders

This is not an isolated event. Previously, Russian forces killed rescuer Oleksandr Yegorychev in the Dnipropetrovsk region. These attacks underscore the extreme risks Ukrainian firefighters and rescuers now confront while performing their duties in an active war zone. The death of Pavlo Kolisnyk reflects not only a profound personal loss for his family and colleagues but also a broader crisis regarding the safety of emergency personnel.

Despite the constant threat of military action, these crews continue to risk their lives to aid civilians. This incident stresses the critical need for enhanced precautions and protection for all emergency service workers, as well as the importance of sustained international support for Ukraine's civil defense infrastructure.
