Death of Juan Pedro Franco

According to ТСН: Juan Pedro Franco, who earned the title of the heaviest person in the world, died in Mexico from complications caused by a kidney infection. He was 41 years old.

Franco became famous in 2017 when the Guinness World Records confirmed his weight at 92 stone (approximately 590 kg). Due to severe obesity, he spent many years bedridden and was unable to move independently. Doctors noted that his weight was equivalent to that of a Mini Cooper car.

Franco died in a hospital in Aguascalientes. Doctor Jose Antonio Castaneda reported that a few days before his death, the patient’s condition sharply deteriorated due to a kidney infection that caused systemic complications.

Struggle with Obesity

Despite serious health problems, Franco tried to regain his mobility. He embarked on an intensive weight loss program under medical supervision, adhering to a Mediterranean diet and undergoing several bariatric surgeries, such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. These efforts yielded results — the man lost nearly half of his body weight and was able to walk again.

Doctors noted that this significantly reduced the risks associated with diabetes and stress on the heart; however, Franco's overall condition remained complicated due to chronic illnesses. In 2020, he also contracted COVID-19, despite the high risks of severe progression.

Franco often shared his struggle with obesity, admitting that the disease completely controlled his life. After the surgeries, he recalled with relief the return of basic abilities — the ability to get up, pour water, and walk to the bathroom.

Doctor Castaneda called his case one of the most complex in his practice and emphasized that Franco's openness helped draw attention to obesity as a chronic disease that requires prolonged and careful treatment.

It is also worth noting that in Brazil, the absolute champion of the country in rhythmic gymnastics, Isabel Marciniak, died at the age of 18.

The death of Juan Pedro Franco raises questions about the fight against obesity and the need to support people facing this problem. His experience serves as an important reminder of the complexity of this disease and the need for a comprehensive approach to treatment and rehabilitation. Franco, unfortunately, said goodbye to life under difficult circumstances, but his story may prompt many to pay attention to this serious issue in society.
