The court in the murder case of Farion left the suspect in custody.

According to ТСН: At the Shevchenkivsky District Court in Lviv, the preventive measure for Vyacheslav Zinchenko, accused of murdering Iryna Farion, was extended. He remains in custody.

Zinchenko's arrest was extended for 60 days without the right to bail, until March 9 inclusive. The lawyers requested to transfer him to house arrest with an electronic bracelet, but the court denied this request.

Arguments of the Prosecutor's Office

Prosecutor Dmytro Petliovanyi emphasized during the session that if the preventive measure changes, there is a risk of the suspect fleeing to avoid criminal liability. He noted that Zinchenko does not have a permanent residence in Lviv or the region.

“There is a risk that, given the nature of the crimes he is charged with, his interest in weapons and certain skills in handling them, as well as the nature of the crime he is accused of, the defendant may commit another criminal offense,” added the prosecutor.

Defense of the Accused

Zinchenko's defense considers the prosecutor's request to be “unfounded,” and the stated risks to be “subjective and not supported by proper evidence.”

Let us remind you that on the evening of July 19, 2024, the murder of activist Iryna Farion took place in Lviv. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition, where she later died. Shortly thereafter, the suspect — 18-year-old Vyacheslav Zinchenko — was apprehended in Dnipro. According to the investigation, he was a participant in an online group that promotes violence and incites racial, national, and religious hatred.

During a court session in December, it became known that the scent examination showed a 99.9% match with the accused Zinchenko. Expert Vitaliy Mandryk confirmed that the scent traces from the crime scene where the activist was murdered match with the samples of the accused.
