Explosions in Cheboksary: How the Destruction of the Progress Plant Will Affect Russian Missile Attacks.
According to ТСН: On the night of December 9, a series of explosions were recorded in Cheboksary, Russia. This city is home to the Progress plant, which produces important Cometa antennas for Russian cruise missiles and Shahed kamikaze drones. The destruction of this facility will significantly impact Russia's ability to carry out attacks on Ukraine.
Military expert Pavlo Narozhny explained that the Cometa antenna is a protected device that is resistant to the effects of electronic warfare (EW) measures.
“The meaning is quite simple. Everyone has seen — when an air raid alert occurs, we find ourselves in Peru on our navigators, then in the Atlantic Ocean. This happens because EW measures are operating, which transmit a false signal,” said the expert.
According to him, Ukraine is well aware of the vulnerabilities of Russian missiles and drones. The Cometa antenna can have between 4 to 16 channels, providing a high level of resilience during active actions by Ukrainian electronic warfare means.
The Importance of the Cometa Antenna for Russian Attacks
Thanks to this system, missiles and kamikaze drones can navigate even during the active use of Ukrainian EW measures. To prevent this antenna from working, it is necessary to simultaneously deploy up to 16 EW measures, which significantly complicates the task.
The expert notes that the facility is not large — its production area can be compared to a football field. Therefore, every strike on this object can substantially reduce the production of components for missiles and drones.
Local residents reported two powerful explosions that occurred with an interval of about 20 minutes. Russian sources claim that the explosions could have been a result of a drone attack, which caused a fire to break out in one of the districts. Traffic disruptions were also recorded on three sections of the road in the city.
Temporary restrictions were mentioned at Cheboksary Airport, where some flights were not operating.
According to Petro Andriushchenko, the target of the incident could have been the AТ Energoparts plant, which supplies electrical equipment and generators for the Russian defense industry and is critically important for military production.
It should be noted that on December 5, the Ukrainian Security Service carried out a successful drone attack on the liquefied gas transshipment terminal in the Russian port of Temryuk. As a result of the incident, a massive fire erupted that lasted for three days and affected a significant portion of the company's tanks.
According to source data, the operation was conducted by the Alpha special operations center of the SBU. As a result of the attack, gas tanks and other structures were destroyed, with the area of the fire being about 3 thousand square meters.
This situation demonstrates how important it is for Russia to maintain control over the production of military components that are crucial for conducting aggressive actions. The destruction of key strategic facilities can significantly change the balance of power in the region and also affect the military capabilities of the aggressor country.
