Children of God Sect: A Victim Tells of Marriage to the Founder at the Age of 3.
According to ТСН: A woman who was forced to marry the 68-year-old cult leader at the age of three shared horrifying details about this notorious group.
Terrible Practices of the Children of God
Serena Kelly, born in a commune in the Philippines, shared her story. Her mother gave her to David Brandt Berg, the founder of the Children of God sect, for marriage. Berg claimed that God was love and love was sex, therefore there should be no age or relationship boundaries.
Serena recalled: 'Berg believed that children should be sexually awakened from a young age. In fact, my mother gave me to Berg so that he could take me as his wife. He gifted me a ring, we had a whole ceremony and all that. It was considered a great honor. Everyone was very excited.'
Shocking Events in the Sect
Serena also reported strange practices in the sect where young girls were forced to dance naked in front of a crowd of adults. She noted that this was part of their culture, and the adults clapped happily.
Serena added: 'There were women who did striptease dances throughout the house. There were meetings where they were inspired, and they had children ages 12, 13, 14 literally dancing and taking off their clothes while the adults applauded. I saw a lot of that at a very young age. It always horrified me because I knew I would have to do the same one day.'
After marrying Berg, of which her mother was very proud, Serena had to 'hug' the founder of the cult.
She said: 'He wanted to be with me, and it was like a hug with a grandfather, which was really child abuse. This happened practically all the time in his bed, stroking, exploring; essentially, it didn’t go beyond that, as I was only three years old, luckily, but yes, it was full access to me.'
Current Situation in the Group
Berg died in 1994 at the age of 75. Recent research has shown that the sect has abandoned its old practices and is now trying to create a 'safe environment' for children by focusing on missionary and humanitarian activities.
The situation surrounding the Children of God is complicated by the memories of former members who have endured terrible moments. Although the sect is taking steps toward reform, it is important to remember the tragic consequences that have shaped the lives of many. Open testimonies like Serena’s help draw attention to the issue of child exploitation and abuse in such groups.
