Mandatory Evacuation Ordered in Zaporizhzhia Due to Drone Threat

According to TSN.ua: Authorities in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region have declared a mandatory evacuation for residents of five villages, citing a severe threat from Russian drones. Rescue teams are actively moving people out of the danger zones, including the village of Mykilske, where shelling has already destroyed homes. This region has been a focal point of intense fighting since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022.

Forty children from 26 families are currently awaiting evacuation. Mykilske, situated just 20 kilometers from the front line, has been among the hardest hit. A shelling attack on the 6th of the month destroyed one house completely. During their latest mission, rescue workers successfully evacuated 11 people, four of whom were children.

Evacuees Share Their Ordeal

Displaced residents from Mykilske have recounted their harrowing experiences. Olha, one of the evacuees, stated:

“Things are very bad in our village. I worked in the medical field—that was destroyed too, nothing is left.”

Another evacuee, Oleksandra, shared:

“It hit us on the 6th. The house was smashed, nothing remained. Thank God everyone is alive, the children were not hurt.”

Yurii Holinko, a rescue officer for the community, highlighted the dire state of villages that were once home to over 1,000 people: “In villages where over 1,000 people once lived, only about seven individuals remain now. We are stressing the urgent need to evacuate to safer areas while it is still possible.”

A transit center in Zaporizhzhia is providing hot meals, medical aid, and psychological counseling. Evacuees have the choice to stay within Zaporizhzhia or relocate to the Cherkasy region. The situation remains tense, with rescue services continuing their efforts to ensure civilian safety.

This evacuation is part of a broader strategy by Ukrainian services to protect civilians amid escalating threats. Such measures underscore the critical importance of emergency preparedness, particularly in regions under active attack. The situation in Zaporizhzhia serves as a stark example for other vulnerable areas regarding the organization of safety and support for affected populations.
