Germany's arms export may reach a new record.
The issuance of export permits for arms from Germany has increased
The number of permits for the export of arms and military equipment from Germany may reach a new record. According to the German Ministry of Economics, by October 15, 4,163 permits had been issued for a total of 10.9 billion euros, two-thirds of which is military weapons. This is in line with last year's figures, which amounted to 12.2 billion euros.
One of the factors contributing to the increase in the issuance of permits is the export of arms to Ukraine, according to data from the Ministry of Economics. During the first half of the year, materials worth 4.9 billion euros were approved for Ukraine.
Previously, during government negotiations, it was decided to restrict arms exports and introduce relevant legislation. However, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz lifted the ban on arms delivery to the conflict zone. This led to an increase in arms export volumes that exceed previous years' figures.
