According to ТСН: Green tea is a popular beverage known for its health benefits. However, excessive consumption (more than 3-4 cups a day) or consumption by certain categories of people can lead to negative consequences. This is due to the caffeine (theine) content, which can sometimes cause anxiety, insomnia, and increased blood pressure.

Main disadvantages of drinking green tea:

  • Stimulates the nervous system. The drink is not recommended for people prone to tachycardia or insomnia, as well as those with increased excitability.

  • Increases acidity of gastric juice. This can be dangerous for individuals with chronic gastrointestinal diseases such as gastritis, ulcers, or tumors.

  • Do not drink green tea on an empty stomach, as this can lead to increased gastric secretion, which may result in self-digestion. It is recommended to drink green tea 30-60 minutes after a meal to improve digestion.

  • Do not take medications with green tea, as this can reduce or nullify their effectiveness.

  • Do not consume green tea with alcohol. Combining even wine and green tea can significantly increase the load on the kidneys.

  • Reduces iron absorption. The catechins found in green tea, while having antioxidant properties, can hinder the body's ability to absorb iron from food, which in individuals with low iron levels may lead to iron deficiency anemia.

Most adults can drink green tea daily without harming their health. Doctors recommend not exceeding a daily intake of 400 mg of caffeine. One cup of green tea contains approximately 22−40 mg of caffeine.

The significance of green tea in the diet of many Ukrainians is hard to overestimate. Nevertheless, it is important to know the limit and to consider your health condition before consuming it. Proper consumption of this beverage can bring more benefits than harm, so follow the doctors' recommendations and listen carefully to your body.
