Zelenskyy Announces US-Russia Talks in the UAE: Key Details on the Upcoming Meeting.
Davos Summit Focuses on Ending the War in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: At the Davos summit on January 22, discussions centered on bringing the war in Ukraine to a close. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, which lasted approximately one hour. Trump expressed optimism about the potential for the war to end soon, stating:
“Everyone wants this war to end. The war must end. Many people are dying.” - Donald Trump
Talks Scheduled for the United Arab Emirates
Zelenskyy has announced that negotiations involving representatives from the United States and Russia will take place on January 23 in the United Arab Emirates. The meeting, expected to last several days, will include key members of the Ukrainian delegation:
- Rustem Umerov
- Kyrylo Budanov
- Sergiy Kyslytsya
- David Arakhamia
Discussing the situation, Zelenskyy noted that 'the work of the teams was discussed, and practically every day there are meetings or communication.' However, he voiced skepticism regarding the intentions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying:
“I am not sure that Putin wants to end this war in the situation he is in now.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The pursuit of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine remains a pressing issue. The planned talks in the UAE could represent a significant step toward achieving peace, though substantial doubts persist about Russia's readiness for constructive dialogue. These diplomatic efforts occur against a backdrop of sustained Western support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The international community continues to watch closely, as the outcome of these talks could have profound implications for European and global security.
