Zelensky explained why Ukraine did not sign an agreement with the USA on mineral resources.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated at the Munich Security Conference that Ukraine did not sign an agreement on mineral resources with the USA because it did not align with national interests. Zelensky explained that the agreement was not ready at the ministry level, so it could not be finalized. The President believes that to ensure profit from investments, proper security and guarantees are necessary. He refused to sign the agreement as it did not provide any security guarantees for Ukraine. According to the document, the USA would have received 50% of the reserves of mineral resources in the country.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent brought a draft agreement to Ukraine, under which the USA would provide access to mineral resources worth 500 billion dollars in exchange for Washington's assistance. He also spoke about the impact of such an agreement on the war in Ukraine.
