Ukraine plans to expand the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant by building four new energy units. This will make it the most powerful nuclear station in the country. This news was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky in his daily address on February 13.
The construction project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase plans to build two energy units with a capacity of 2.2 GW. In the second phase, two more units will be built, which will be of American manufacture - from Westinghouse. Their capacity will also be 2.2 GW. Thus, as a result of the construction of all four units, the Khmelnytsky NPP will become the most powerful nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
President Zelensky emphasized that this project will allow Ukraine to not depend on electricity imports in winter and provide the population and industry with cheap electricity.
In his address, the president also reported on preparations for the Munich Conference and phone calls with Polish Prime Minister Tusk and Lithuanian President Nauseda regarding the coordination of positions in the field of European defense.
Additionally, the president noted the successes of the 425th Separate Assault Brigade on the front and ordered to consider the possibility of appointing Brigadier General Serhiy Golubtsov as Deputy Commander of the Air Forces.
