According to ТСН: After losing her dog Oliver, 48-year-old American Vanessa Johnson from California went through a difficult period of depression. Eventually, she decided to spend 50 thousand dollars on cloning her pet.

It is reported that the cloned dog did not bring her the expected relief.

When Vanessa learned about Viagen, a company offering cloning services, she considered it a lifeline during her emotional crisis. At that time, she had stopped working, eating, and sleeping, and even had to move in with her parents to cope with her grief.

To pay for the cloning, Vanessa had to look for extra work, accept help from loved ones, and launch a fundraising campaign.

Specialists were able to create a viable embryo, even though Oliver's body was frozen. On the third attempt, a surrogate mother carried three puppies, one of which became a genetic copy of Oliver.

However, when Vanessa brought home the clone she named Olli, she realized that she did not feel the desired relief. The puppy looked almost like her beloved pet, but this only intensified her pain, making her relive her loss.

“This is not Oliver. This is a part of him, but not him himself. If I had properly mourned, I would have just adopted an old dog from a shelter, as I always did.”

In the comments to her story online, there was a lot of criticism regarding her decision. People scolded her for spending large sums on cloning instead of helping animals from shelters.

Vanessa admits that she shares these complaints and hopes that animal cloning does not become a widespread practice.

It was also reported that a couple from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, decided to get a new Beagle dog, but when they chose a pet, they realized that something went wrong. This confirms the idea that love for animals is always best realized through adoption from shelters.
