Veteran with a prosthesis fulfilled a childhood dream and became a police officer: the story of Dmytro.
According to ТСН: Dmytro Kyrychuk from Volyn went to the front at the age of 20, and after a serious injury near Toretsk, having lost a leg, he not only returned to normal life but also realized his childhood dream - he became the owner of a powerful motorcycle. He is currently undergoing training with the police and is already planning new exciting steps.
"You start to value life"
Since childhood, Dmytro dreamed of motorcycles, but the opportunity to buy his own appeared only now, after prosthetics. The young man is convinced that the war has forever changed his life priorities.
"You don’t just grow up, you start to appreciate the values of life. You can’t change anything, but you must fulfill your dreams," Dmytro says with a sparkle in his eyes.
At first glance, it is hard to believe that the young man has a prosthesis. His artificial leg is decorated with children's stickers that his little sister Eva put on it. Dmytro quickly mastered the prosthesis and now manages the household by himself while his family rests. He spends all his free time in the garage, repairing equipment.
The path from stormtrooper to police officer
The decision to go to war at the age of 20 was a conscious one for Dmytro, as he wanted to protect Ukraine's borders. He first underwent training in Ukraine and the UK, and then joined the combined assault brigade “Lut”.
An unpleasant incident occurred last year near Toretsk when an enemy shell hit the position where Dmytro was. "I came to my senses, checked to see if I was whole. I tried to stand up - it didn’t work. I called my comrade, and he ran over, applied a tourniquet to me", recalls the fighter.
Despite all the efforts of doctors in Dnipro and Lutsk, it was not possible to save his leg. However, Dmytro decided not to let the injury affect his future.
New service and the next goal - the sky
Today, the 22-year-old veteran is interning at the Lutsk District Police Department as a duty assistant. Although the work is paperwork and analytical, Dmytro gives it his all.
"From the first days, he asks everything, catches on quickly," said his colleague Sofia Prystupa.
Police spokesperson for Volyn, Olga Buzuluk, noted that a position in the duty unit was specifically offered to Dmytro, as it does not require high physical fitness or apprehension of criminals.
However, Dmytro does not plan to stop at his achievements in work and motorcycle riding. He has a new goal that inspires him: "I really want to jump with a parachute. But not right now. Someday," the young man smiles.
