December 28: What is categorically forbidden to do on the Day of Remembrance of the 2000 Burned Martyrs.
According to ТСН: Tomorrow, December 28, in the Orthodox calendar is the Day of Remembrance of the 2000 Martyrs burned in Nicomedia. This tragic event resulted from the Great Persecution of Christians during the reign of Emperors Diocletian and Maximian Hercules at the turn of the 3rd and 4th centuries. On Christmas Day, the Christians of Nicomedia gathered in the temple for a communal prayer. However, by order of the emperor or local authorities, the church was surrounded by soldiers. The believers were offered the chance to leave and make a sacrifice to pagan gods, but they refused.
As a result, the building was set on fire, leading to the deaths of about two thousand Christians — men, women, the elderly, and children — in the flames, praying and praising God.
