Hourly Power Outage Schedules Introduced Across Ukraine

According to TSN.ua: Starting at midnight on February 3rd, Ukraine will implement scheduled hourly power outages nationwide. This measure is a direct response to the severe damage inflicted on the country's energy infrastructure by sustained Russian missile and drone attacks, which have critically undermined the stability of the power grid. The outage schedules will be in effect from 00:00 to 23:59 each day and will impact both residential consumers and industrial facilities. These rolling blackouts are a common wartime measure to prevent a total collapse of the energy system.

Outage Groups for the Kyiv Region

In the Kyiv region specifically, power cuts will be organized according to the following groups:

  • Group 1:
    • 1.1: 00:00–02:30, 06:00–13:00, 16:30–20:00;
    • 1.2: 00:00–02:30, 06:00–09:30, 16:30–23:30.
  • Group 2:
    • 2.1: 06:00–13:00, 16:30–22:00;
    • 2.2: 06:00–13:00, 16:30–23:30.
  • Group 3:
    • 3.1: 00:00–06:00, 09:30–13:00, 20:00–24:00;
    • 3.2: 00:00–06:00, 09:30–16:30, 20:00–24:00.
  • Group 4:
    • 4.1: 00:00–02:30, 09:30–16:30, 20:00–23:30;
    • 4.2: 00:00–02:30, 09:30–16:30, 20:00–23:30.
  • Group 5:
    • 5.1: 02:30–06:00, 13:00–20:00, 23:30–24:00;
    • 5.2: 02:30–09:30, 13:00–20:00, 23:30–24:00.
  • Group 6:
    • 6.1: 02:30–09:30, 13:00–20:00, 23:30–24:00;
    • 6.2: 02:30–09:30, 13:00–16:30, 23:30–24:00.

Similar hourly outage schedules will be applied in numerous other Ukrainian regions, including Lviv, Rivne, Chernivtsi, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Poltava, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Volyn, Vinnytsia, Ternopil, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Khmelnytskyi.

The primary goal of these schedules is to preserve the integrity of the national energy system and mitigate the widespread consequences of the ongoing attacks. By carefully managing demand, authorities aim to distribute the available power supply more evenly and reduce the risk of catastrophic failure from further strikes.

The introduction of scheduled hourly blackouts is a critical step for maintaining energy stability under the extreme conditions of war.

The relentless targeting of energy facilities necessitates swift operational decisions to avert complete, uncontrolled blackouts. These implemented measures are designed to balance the load on the crippled power network and lower the risks associated with potential new assaults on energy infrastructure.
