According to ТСН: Tomorrow, December 8, in the Orthodox calendar is the day of remembrance of Saint Abbot Patapius. He was a healing saint honored by the Church. Patapius was born in the city of Thebes (Egypt) into a devout Christian family and lived during the late Roman Egypt. After receiving enlightenment in philosophy, rhetoric, and religious sciences, he understood the transience of the world and sought a simple, devoted life with God.

At a young age, Patapius went to the Egyptian desert, where he spent many years in strict asceticism — in prayers, fasting, and contemplation. Discarding worldly vanity, he sought inner purification, remaining alone with God.

However, even in the desert, his holiness did not go unnoticed: people began to come to him for spiritual advice and prayers. Due to the large influx of pilgrims, Patapius had to leave the desert and go to Constantinople.

In Constantinople, he settled in a cell near the city wall, not far from the Church of Blachernae. Living in simplicity, fasting, and prayer, Patapius demonstrated his gift of healing. The sick and suffering began to come to him.

One of the first miracles attributed to the saint was the healing of an infant who had been blind from birth. Thanks to the prayer of Patapius, the child received sight. This miracle made him known among the inhabitants of Constantinople, and the number of those wishing to turn to him grew.

People also came to the saint with serious ailments: according to legends, he healed people suffering from dropsy, freed youths from demons, treated severe wounds and various diseases, using only prayer, the cross, and faith.

After many years of service and help to the suffering, Patapius died in old age. According to various accounts, this happened in the 5th century (one variant - the year 463).

Saint Patapius was initially buried in the Church of St. John the Baptist in Constantinople. Later, after the fall of the city, his relics were moved to a cave near Loutraki (Greece).
