The Priest Explained When Jesus Was Actually Born: It Is Not December 25.
According to ТСН: In the debates regarding the date of the celebration of Christmas, which is marked either on December 25 or January 7, a priest-blogger from Ternopil region, Oleksii Filiuk, made an impressive statement that there is no exact date for Jesus' birth.
He shared this on his Instagram.
"You won't find an exact date for the celebration of Christmas anywhere — neither in the Bible nor in Holy Tradition," the priest acknowledged.
Filiuk explained that in the 4th century AD, a decision was made to celebrate Christmas nine months after the Annunciation, that is, on December 25. He also emphasized that all around the world, from Albania to Ukraine or Jerusalem, it is stated that the Nativity of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated on December 25.
The priest cited an example of an Orthodox liturgical book published in 1840, which also states the date of December 25. He added that until 1918, the Russian Empire adhered to the Julian calendar, so December 25 on the Julian calendar coincided with January 7 on the new style.
"To avoid quarreling among ourselves, brothers and sisters, let us be human. And when someone celebrates, that is your individual business. But most Orthodox churches in the world celebrate on December 25. They say it is Catholic Christmas. Why is it Catholic? Are Catholics not Christians? We are all Christians. Almost the whole world celebrates on December 25," the priest explained.
In the priest's opinion, the most accurate date for the celebration of Christmas is December 25.
"We are preparing for Christmas. In just 3 days, it will be Christmas. We honor the Lord. But not only with our hearts and mouths but also with our actions. We hold on to the Lord. We reconcile and bless one another. We pray for peace. Because our main holiday is for the war to end. A life with God, whether you celebrate or not, is very important. Because we all will go to Him. To Him. We will not answer to people but to God. Therefore, dear ones, December 25 is the closest date for the celebration of Christmas," Filiuk concluded.
In conclusion, it is worth noting that researchers have found that the exact date of Jesus' birth does not coincide with December 25, 1 AD, as was previously thought. This topic continues to stir interest among scholars and religious figures who analyze historical sources and traditions to better understand the roots of the Christmas celebration. The debates regarding the date of the Christmas celebration remain relevant and hinder only constructive discussion in church and societal circles.
