December 27: what holidays are celebrated in Ukraine and what is important to know.
According to ТСН: December 27, 2025 – Saturday. The 1402nd day of war in Ukraine.
What holiday is tomorrow
Tomorrow, December 27, believers celebrate the Day of Remembrance of St. Stephen, the first martyr and archdeacon. Saint Stephen, one of the first servants of the Christian Church, was chosen by the apostles for diaconal service. He was distinguished by deep faith, wisdom, and the power of speech, boldly preaching the Gospel. For his testimony about Jesus Christ, Stephen was unjustly condemned by the Sanhedrin and stoned. During his martyrdom, he prayed for his persecutors, following the Savior. His feat became the first martyr's testimony of the Christian faith, and the name of Saint Stephen remains in the history of the Church as a symbol of self-sacrifice, courage, and forgiveness.
On December 27, Ukraine also celebrates the Day of Counterintelligence of the SBU. This is a professional holiday for employees of the counterintelligence units of the Security Service of Ukraine. The SBU counterintelligence plays an important role in protecting state sovereignty and national security. Its tasks include identifying and neutralizing the activities of foreign special services, combating sabotage, terrorism, and espionage, as well as protecting strategically important objects and state secrets.
In times of armed aggression against Ukraine, the importance of counterintelligence has increased: its activities often remain unnoticed, but it is the foundation of the state's internal security. The Day of Counterintelligence of the SBU is an opportunity to honor the professionalism, courage, and dedication of those who work daily to protect Ukraine.
In addition, December 27 is also celebrated as International Day of Epidemic Preparedness. This day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly to emphasize the importance of prevention, preparation, and international cooperation in the fight against epidemics and pandemics. It draws attention to the need to strengthen health care systems, develop epidemiological surveillance, detect threats early, and respond quickly to outbreaks of infectious diseases. Special attention is paid to the role of science, vaccination, public awareness, and international solidarity.
These holidays remind us of the importance of faith, service, and protection, as well as the need to be prepared for the challenges that life presents to us. They emphasize the significance of professionalism in all areas, regardless of circumstances. The security service and healthcare remain the main priorities for the country in the face of modern challenges and threats.
