June 2 Attack on Kyiv: 65 Injured and 5 Dead as Cleanup Operations Continue.
Ongoing Cleanup After Missile and Drone Strike on Kyiv
According to UATV: Kyiv is still dealing with the aftermath of a massive missile and drone assault launched by Russia on June 2. The attack left 65 people injured, including three children, and tragically claimed five lives. The assault began shortly after the first air raid sirens sounded around 8:00 PM on June 1.
In total, 656 drones and 73 missiles were fired during the strike. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to intercept 641 of these aerial threats. Residential buildings, medical facilities, and kindergartens sustained damage. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that
“emergency response teams have been deployed to the impact sites and are working to manage the aftermath.”
Among the survivors is witness Taras Shpakivskyi, who recalled:
“I was in a room facing the other side, so I was lucky.”Cleanup and recovery efforts are still underway, with emergency services focused on restoring damaged structures.
Capital Under Strain
The situation in the capital remains tense, but local authorities are taking steps to ensure public safety and support those affected. Updates on infrastructure restoration and assistance for victims are expected in the coming days.
This attack marks another escalation in hostilities within Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv, which has faced repeated threats.
