Power Outages Hit Ukraine: Eleven Regions Face the Most Severe Disruptions.
Eleven Ukrainian Regions Grapple with Severe Power Outages
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's power grid is under severe strain due to targeted attacks on its energy infrastructure and adverse weather conditions. This has necessitated the implementation of scheduled hourly blackouts as well as emergency power cuts across multiple regions. As of January 28, 2023, electricity has been cut off to 730 settlements within eleven of the country's oblasts. These outages are part of a wider, ongoing energy crisis stemming from the war.
Affected Regions
The following oblasts are experiencing the most significant disruptions to their power supply:
- Vinnytsia
- Ternopil
- Khmelnytskyi
- Odesa
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Kirovohrad
- Mykolaiv
- Cherkasy
- Kyiv
- Kharkiv
- Chernihiv
New power cuts have been reported in the Dnipropetrovsk region, specifically in the city of Kamianske.
Utility crews are working around the clock to restore electricity in the hardest-hit areas. Emergency disconnections are being used in some regions as a last resort to prevent a wider collapse of the national grid. Authorities are urging consumers to exercise patience and strictly follow the instructions provided by their energy providers.
The overall power supply situation in Ukraine remains critical, exacerbated by winter conditions which drive up demand for electricity. Emergency blackouts are likely to persist as the damaged energy infrastructure requires urgent repairs following attacks and natural disasters. While energy companies continue efforts to stabilize the system, residents should prepare for potential difficulties with electricity supply in the coming days.
