The flight, which departed from Cúcuta en route to Ocaña, lost contact with air traffic controllers approximately 12 minutes after takeoff. Colombia's challenging terrain and weather have historically posed risks to aviation.
The plane failed to reach its destination, and its emergency locator transmitter did not activate, complicating search efforts. Wreckage was eventually located in a rural area of the La Playa de Belén municipality. The victims included 13 passengers and 2 crew members, all of whom perished in the crash.
