The first European filtration station in Ukraine: Mykolaiv has received water for half a million residents.
According to ТСН: A new filtration station has been opened in Mykolaiv - the first European-standard treatment facility in Ukraine. It will provide high-quality drinking water to over 500,000 residents of the city. This was announced by the founder of the Autostrada Group, Maksym Shkil.
Water purification process
"Water from the new water pipeline is already flowing to the purification block with activated carbon, which effectively absorbs organic pollutants, improving the organoleptic properties of water (eliminating foreign odors and enhancing taste)." After this stage, the water is sent for further purification at the operating treatment facilities of Mykolaiv," noted Maksym Shkil.
The new station already has four pumping units with a capacity of 250 kW, which will pump up to 2500 m3 of water per hour.
Construction and technologies
"We are conducting hydraulic tests of concrete tanks for airtightness. In the coming months, we will perform commissioning works and organize landscaping. In fact, this is the first station of such scale in Ukraine where such a comprehensive approach to purification has been used. This is a classic European approach to the water treatment system in a large city," shared Maksym Shkil.
The head of the group of companies noted that besides mechanical microfilters and the use of activated carbon, the project provides for pH correction to stabilize the chemical balance of the water. The planned coagulation, oxidation, and disinfection processes with modern reagents allow for the coagulation of impurities for further filtration, and the final disinfection is accompanied by the accumulation of water in tanks. An automated system will ensure control over the operation of the station, monitoring 18 water quality parameters in real time.
"We have record construction times - only 4 months including project solutions developed by the Autostrada Institute with the participation of international experts and consultants from UNICEF. The team worked around the clock. All work was carried out exclusively by the company's own forces, without involving subcontractors. This approach ensures the implementation of large-scale projects in a short time while saving budget funds. During the implementation of the Mykolaiv water pipeline, Autostrada provided a discount of over 2.5 billion hryvnias. Thanks to this savings, we were able to build a new treatment station," emphasized Maksym Shkil.
New water pipeline
As a reminder, recently the Autostrada Group completed the construction of a new 68-kilometer main water pipeline to Mykolaiv costing 6.3 billion hryvnias, which will replace the system destroyed by Russian troops in April 2022.
It was previously reported that the new water pipeline is built according to the latest engineering standards, taking into account protection against Russian drones and the use of energy-efficient solutions.
This new filtration station and water pipeline are important steps for restoring the infrastructure of Mykolaiv, which has suffered serious damage during the war. Providing high-quality drinking water is not only a matter of comfort but also of the health of residents, making this initiative extremely important for the development of the city and improving the lives of its inhabitants.
