Kyiv Residents Endure Week Without Heat in 100 Buildings, Expert Advises Relocation.
Heating Crisis in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: Approximately 100 residential buildings in Kyiv have now been without heating for over a week. Alexander Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center, has highlighted this ongoing issue and is advising affected residents to seek alternative accommodation until heat is restored. This situation underscores the severe challenges Ukraine's capital faces in maintaining critical infrastructure during winter.
On January 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a special meeting specifically to address the capital's heating problems. According to Kharchenko, while heat has been restored to nearly all buildings in Kyiv, around 100 residences remain without it. He further noted that in some buildings, despite the presence of a heating system and coolant, interior temperatures remain critically low, reaching only about 12 degrees Celsius (54 degrees Fahrenheit).
Advice for Affected Residents
In light of these conditions, Kharchenko's recommendation to residents is unequivocal:
“Look for a place to relocate temporarily.”This advice is crucial for those in cold apartments to avoid potential health risks and severe discomfort. Residents facing this difficult situation are urged to find solutions to secure adequate living conditions while their heating is out.
The heating crisis in Kyiv highlights the vital importance of ensuring proper living conditions during the winter months. The prolonged absence of heat in numerous buildings poses serious health threats, particularly for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly. Authorities must urgently implement solutions to resolve the problem and prevent further social strain and erosion of public trust.
