Russia killed a paramedic during a second strike on Kyiv: details of the tragedy.
According to ТСН: As a result of the Russian shelling of Kyiv, paramedic Sergey Smolyak, originally from Kherson region, was killed. When his team arrived at the site of the attack on a residential building in the Darnytsia district, the enemy carried out a second strike, which was fatal for Sergey. Along with him, four colleagues were injured, as well as five rescuers and one police officer.
Hospital: surgeries without electricity and fighting for life
There is a tense atmosphere in the hospital, especially in the intensive care unit, where rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are currently located.
Dmytro Sydorenko, head of the polytrauma department:
“We are performing surgeries without electricity. The condition of the SES officers is unstable, extremely serious.”
Deputy Director of the hospital Ivan Berezenko reported that all the injured have already received assistance:
“Two paramedics were admitted to us. Their lives are not in danger; treatment continues in the hospital.”
This day has become yet another great sorrow for the families of the rescuers.
Anna Yatsenko, Deputy Head of the Department of Moral and Psychological Support of the State Emergency Service:
“Five of our employees were injured. We are working, waiting, working with relatives. To say that we have a magic wand to somehow ease their pain is something we would really like, but...”
Emergency department: memories of a colleague
In the emergency medical department, from where three teams of paramedics went out on calls today, there is also no electricity. Medics are preparing for new departures, remembering Sergey Smolyak, who was a displaced person from Nova Kakhovka and accidentally joined the Kyiv team.
Vadym Viliyvchuk, head of the emergency medical department:
“He just passed by.”
Sergey, who was 56 years old, had extensive experience working on the ambulance and quickly became part of the team. Colleagues valued his professionalism and sense of humor.
Paramedic Svetlana Kachan, who is also from Kherson region, decided to move here because the department was filled with “their own” Kherson residents.
Svetlana Kachan, paramedic:
“Everyone here is one of their own... Sergey was, of course, a wonderful medic, but the most important people in his life were his granddaughters. He was a very loving grandfather.”
Colleagues of Sergey Smolyak note that although this is a difficult day, they are still ready to continue their mission and help people despite the hardships.
The tragedy that occurred in Kyiv once again highlights the risks faced by medics and rescuers during the performance of their duties. It is important to remember their courage and selflessness, as every day they save lives despite the dangers that surround them.
Sergey Smolyak left behind not only professionalism but also bright memories in the hearts of colleagues who continue his work, saving people in difficult conditions.
