Why the meter continues to run even during shutdowns: Explanation from DTEK.
According to ТСН: The company DTEK has explained why the electricity meter continues to display consumption during a power outage. Although it seems that consumption should decrease, the figures only change slightly. The main reason for this is that electricity consumption does not decrease, but is simply used differently.
This is discussed in a video by DTEK.
Why does consumption remain so high?
When the power returns, we immediately turn on many devices: washing machine, boiler, stove, and chargers. This leads to increased activity of technology, and the total consumption is concentrated in a short period of time.
"Therefore, almost the same number of kilowatts can accumulate in a month, even with shutdown plans," they explained at DTEK.
Another important point: if you do not report the meter readings in a timely manner, billing will be based on the average consumption of previous periods.
"And the average figures do not always reflect the actual consumption. Hence, the unexpected amounts on the bill," they added at DTEK.
Recommendations
Report meter readings monthly;
Gradually turn on the technology after power restoration.
It should also be noted that new restrictions were announced by "Ukrenergo" for December 18.
Understanding the mechanisms of electricity consumption helps consumers avoid unpleasant surprises in bills. Timely reporting of meter readings and gradually turning on technology after shutdowns can significantly impact your electricity costs during supply disruptions.
