Former YUKO Singer Applies for Ukrainian Citizenship: What Comes Next.
Yulia Yurina Files for Ukrainian Citizenship
According to TSN.ua: Singer Yulia Yurina, a former member of the band YUKO, has submitted her application for Ukrainian citizenship. This was confirmed on March 17, 2023, when her documents were officially accepted. The paperwork now awaits a signature from President Volodymyr Zelensky. Once approved, Yurina will be required to pass exams on Ukrainian history and the Constitution.
The Citizenship Process
Yurina, originally from Russia, moved to Ukraine in 2012. She shared her thoughts on the process:
“On March 17, 2026, my documents for a change of citizenship were accepted. It’s unclear how long the wait will be now. These documents must be processed and submitted to the President of Ukraine for approval and signature. If everything goes well, I might receive the documents in about a year.” - Yulia Yurina
Additionally, Yurina has signed a commitment to take exams on the Constitution and history of Ukraine. She remarked: “I will take them. If something happens, there’s nothing to congratulate me about yet.” This shows the singer is actively preparing to fulfill all the necessary steps to obtain Ukrainian citizenship.
Yulia Yurina’s pursuit of Ukrainian citizenship reflects a broader trend among individuals from other countries seeking to integrate into Ukrainian society, especially amid ongoing political and social changes. It also highlights the importance of the naturalization process and the readiness of new citizens to comply with Ukrainian laws, including passing exams on the Constitution and history. Successfully completing this process could serve as an example for others who wish to obtain Ukrainian citizenship in the future.
