European Commissioner held talks with Svyrydenko regarding the NABU law.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Taras Kachka held an online conversation with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos. They discussed the draft law that was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada and limits the activities of NABU and SAP.
“I expressed serious concern regarding the recent events in the field of the rule of law, especially regarding the changes adopted to the NABU and SAP laws.”
Marta Kos emphasized that the European Commission will continue to cooperate with Ukraine on the necessary reforms in the field of the rule of law and promoting its path to the EU.
Earlier, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak provided clarification regarding the content of draft law No. 12414. The document provides for a change in the subordination structure of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office: now SAP prosecutors will consider their head not the head of SAP, but the General Prosecutor.
MP Oleksiy Kucherensky also discussed the essence of the draft law, which provides for limitations on the powers of NABU and SAP.
During the online conversation with European Commissioner Marta Kos, Ukrainian officials expressed serious concern regarding the changes that may limit the work of NABU and SAP. The European Commission confirmed its readiness to continue cooperation with Ukraine on the necessary reforms in the field of the rule of law, promoting the country's accession to the EU.Read also
