Tinder predator sentenced to 12 years: how police inaction allowed him to scam and attack.
According to ТСН: Christopher Harkins, a notorious conman and rapist, is serving a 12-year prison sentence. However, his victims claim that stopping his criminal activities could have happened much earlier. A woman named Nadia shared the story of how a 20-minute date with a 'predator' from Tinder ruined her life for years.
In Glasgow, Scotland, in 2018, sports masseuse Nadia met Christopher Harkins through the Tinder app. This brief date marked the beginning of her years-long nightmare. Nadia, who was 27 at the time, decided to leave early, noticing a few 'red flags': Harkins canceled their planned dinner and suggested staying in his empty apartment, and her refusal of alcohol triggered his aggression.
"The look in his eyes was insane. He said something like: 'You are so awkward, you don't respect my property. Some circus performer,'"
A barrage of threats and police inaction
The refusal triggered an immediate and brutal reaction from Harkins. Nadia began receiving threats through calls and messages, where he promised to burn down her house, kill her, and attack her father, while also using insults that undermined her self-esteem.
The next day, the woman went to the Scottish police, providing evidence, including a recording of the threatening conversation.
"I was told they couldn't help. They stated there was no immediate threat. But if and when he does something, I should contact them again,"
— recalls Nadia, noting that this led to a state where 'if it weren't for my daughter, I would have committed suicide'.
A criminal path that lasted decades
Investigations revealed that Nadia was not the only victim. 11 other women attempted to report Harkins to the Scottish police since 2012, accusing him of fraud, physical assaults, and threats. However, law enforcement did not conduct any systemic investigation until late 2019.
The police explained their inaction by stating that previous complaints 'were mostly about financial misconduct' and were considered separately.
Only after the media published the story of another victim in 2019 did the police begin a full-scale investigation.
Delayed justice
Harkins was imprisoned in 2024. He was found guilty of 19 crimes against 10 women, including sexual and physical violence. He also pleaded guilty to stealing over £214,000 through fraud. In total, at least 30 women were harmed by his actions.
Nadia was horrified to learn that two months after their date, Harkins raped another woman.
"This girl could have been saved. He could have been arrested, and she would have never interacted with him. It's disgusting,"
Call for apologies
Nadia and other victims are calling on the Scottish police to formally apologize to those who tried to warn about the danger.
Chief Inspector Lindsay Laird acknowledged that "it is hard to say why reports on him were not investigated earlier" and expressed hope that "this experience will not be repeated." Nadia believes that this is not enough.
"They need to apologize. They could have stopped him,"
Court outcomes
Some women shared their reports of physical assaults and sexual harassment before the investigation began. When asked if the police would apologize to the victims who tried to warn about Harkins, the chief inspector responded that "it is a very complicated question." She added that based on the successful court outcome 'we hope that this experience will not be repeated'.
Nadia commented:
"I know they really worked hard when they decided to do something about it, but they should have done it earlier. He had been doing this for years. It could have been avoided. They need to apologize. They could have stopped him."
Harkins was sentenced last year, nearly five years after his first arrest, based on the testimonies of 10 women.
Nadia received a message about the verdict:
"These women achieved more than you think."
She was able to restore her life and confidence, but this experience left a mark:
"I feel so good now. It's a completely different me, much more confident. I'm not afraid to speak out and will never ignore red flags again."The theme of this news highlights the seriousness of the situation when victims do not receive proper protection and attention from law enforcement agencies. Nadia's story demonstrates how important it is to take red flags seriously and respond appropriately to them to prevent tragedies in the future. The women who suffered from Harkins' criminal activities continue to fight not only for their rights but also for justice for all victims of violence.
