Pension Indexation in March 2026: Two Categories of Ukrainians Will Not Receive an Increase.
According to ТСН: In spring 2026, pension indexation will take place in Ukraine, but not all pensioners will be affected by these changes. Two categories of citizens will not receive an increase in payments.
The indexation is scheduled for March 1, 2026.
The recalculation of pensions will not apply to those who retired in the last three years, as well as to individuals receiving 'special pensions', including military personnel, judges, prosecutors, Chernobyl liquidators, and others whose payment amounts are regulated by separate laws.
Pensions for new retirees will not be recalculated, as their payments already consider current salary indicators. The indexation of special pensions also occurs according to separate legislative norms.
The state budget for 2026 plans for payments to 10.3 million Ukrainian pensioners to reach UAH 251.3 billion. Part of these funds will be allocated for indexation.
The government emphasizes that the annual recalculation of pensions aims to partially compensate for the price increase of goods and services. This process occurs without additional appeals, based on pension case materials.
Indexation Calculation
The amount of indexation is determined annually by a special formula. According to the Pension Fund of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers is responsible for calculating the pension increase coefficient, taking into account the inflation indicators of the previous year and the growth of the average salary from which insurance contributions are paid.
It was also reported that from January 1, 2026, some Ukrainians will have their pensions reduced. This will only affect the part of the pension that exceeds 10 living minimums for non-working individuals (in 2026, this amount will be UAH 25,950).
Pension changes are prompted by the need to adapt to economic realities, as rising prices affect the purchasing power of pensioners. The government continues to work on mechanisms to ensure financial stability and protect the most vulnerable categories of the population. Further steps in pension policy are expected to aim at improving the living standards of pensioners in Ukraine.Read also
