Tensions Mount in the Persian Gulf

According to TSN.ua: Iran has threatened to attack critical infrastructure across Gulf states, responding to a warning from U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump gave Tehran 48 hours to comply with his demand to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, or else face the destruction of its power plants and other vital facilities.

Key Regional Infrastructure at Risk

Potential Iranian targets include the following high-value installations:

  • Al-Qurayya Hydroelectric Plant in Saudi Arabia, generating over 4,000 MW.
  • Ras Tanura Refinery and Power Station in Saudi Arabia, a major strategic oil and gas hub.
  • Barakah Nuclear Plant in the United Arab Emirates, with a capacity of 5,600 MW.
  • Jebel Ali Power and Desalination Complex in the UAE, essential for water and energy supplies.
  • Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in the UAE.
  • Ras Laffan and Umm Al-Houl Power Plants in Qatar.
  • Az-Zour South and Az-Zour North facilities in Kuwait.
  • Shagaya Renewable Energy Park in Kuwait, the region’s largest cluster of solar and wind energy.

Notably, over 40 energy facilities have already been damaged across more than nine Middle Eastern countries, highlighting the region’s fragility and the potential fallout from military threats. Iran’s response to Trump’s statements could trigger further escalation in the Gulf.

These developments underscore the worsening geopolitical climate, where energy infrastructure is crucial not only for national economies but also for global energy markets.

Rising military threats pose serious risks to stability in the Persian Gulf, which would likely drive up oil prices and undermine regional security.
