Israeli Forces Conduct Ground Operation in Southern Lebanon, Defense Minister Confirms.
Israel Launches Military Action in Lebanon
According to TSN.ua: Israeli ground troops have entered southern Lebanon in a stated effort to prevent rocket attacks on its northern communities. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the deployment, stating forces are now positioned at several locations near the border zone. This incursion is a direct response to recent rocket fire targeting Israel from Lebanese territory.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have issued evacuation warnings to residents of dozens of villages in southern Lebanon and in Beirut's southern suburbs. Minister Israel Katz framed the operation as a defensive measure:
"To prevent the possibility of direct fire on Israeli communities, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have authorized the IDF to advance and hold additional dominant terrain in Lebanon, from which we will protect our border towns." - Israel Katz
In a parallel action, Israel has also conducted airstrikes against Hezbollah targets within Lebanon, including in the capital. These strikes form part of a broader military campaign aimed at neutralizing threats from the Iran-backed militant group. IDF Spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued a stark warning to civilians:
"For your own safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately." - Avichay Adraee
Regional Tensions Escalate
The situation along the Israel-Lebanon border remains highly volatile, with Israeli actions focused on securing its northern frontier through a combination of ground presence and preemptive strikes.
This latest escalation in the long-running conflict between Israel and Hezbollah risks broader regional instability. Israel's military moves demonstrate its readiness to take direct action against perceived threats from militant groups operating across its northern border. The large-scale evacuation orders for Lebanese civilians underscore the severe humanitarian risks involved, highlighting the urgent need for diplomatic engagement to prevent a wider war. This flare-up occurs amidst ongoing regional tensions stemming from the Gaza conflict.
