Teen Girl Falls 8 Meters into Abandoned Water Pump Shaft in Kyiv Region.
Incident in Bila Tserkva District
According to TSN.ua: A 17-year-old girl plunged into an eight-meter-deep shaft at a water pumping station in the Bila Tserkva district of Kyiv Oblast around 7:30 PM on March 30. Rescuers quickly pulled her from the water and handed her over to medical personnel.
The teenager, born in 2009, had been celebrating her birthday with a group of friends on the grounds of an abandoned facility. During the festivities, she fell into the shaft, sustaining injuries and hypothermia. The incident has raised alarm, especially following a separate event on March 29 in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, where three teenagers climbed onto the roof of a decommissioned rail car and were electrocuted. One boy died on the spot, while the other two were hospitalized with severe burns. The voltage in that power line exceeded 27,000 volts.
Dangers and the Importance of Safety
This case highlights the risks young people can face and underscores the critical need to follow safety rules during leisure activities. The swift response of rescue workers in this situation prevented even graver consequences.
Two incidents involving teenagers in as many days point to a pressing need for greater awareness among youth about the hazards of trespassing on abandoned or dangerous sites. Authorities and educational institutions must intensify efforts to prevent such situations, ensuring the safety of children and teens during their free time.
