Operations Halted at Kyiv Rus Gymnasium

According to TSN.ua: Authorities have ordered the immediate closure of the Kyiv Rus Gymnasium in Kyiv due to alarming structural issues discovered during a recent inspection. Engineers identified widespread cracks in the walls, excessive sagging in floor slabs, and a critical lack of load-bearing capacity in the building's framework. Oleksandr Kovtunov, head of the Darnytsia District State Administration, stressed that children's safety is the top priority and that decisive action is necessary.

Located at 2-v Borys Hmyra Street, the gymnasium first opened its doors on September 1, 2013. In light of the building's dangerous condition, officials are moving to suspend its use immediately. Kovtunov added that he is preparing a formal request backed by detailed calculations to urgently secure funding for repair and restoration work.

Meeting Scheduled with Teachers and Parents

A meeting with the teaching staff and parents has been set for March 23, 2026, at 5:00 PM. This gathering is expected to be a key forum for discussing next steps to ensure student safety and address the building's repairs. During the suspension, gymnasts and boxers who train at the facility will continue their sessions, but local authorities emphasize that safety remains their foremost concern.

The shutdown of the Kyiv Rus Gymnasium highlights a broader issue with the condition of school buildings across the capital. By moving swiftly to address the threat, city officials signal a serious commitment to protecting students. The upcoming meeting with families and educators could serve as a vital step in keeping the community informed and involved in decisions aimed at improving both learning conditions and child safety.
