China's Role in the World for Ukraine: What Beijing Really Says

According to ТСН: China considers its role in negotiations for a ceasefire in Ukraine to be constructive. Beijing maintains communication with all parties involved in the conflict, which has been ongoing for four years.

Spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, stated that since the beginning of the 'Ukrainian crisis,' China has actively engaged with all parties, including Ukraine and Russia. He emphasized that the PRC is 'working' towards achieving a ceasefire, supports peaceful negotiations, and plans to continue playing a constructive role in this process.

“From the very beginning of the 'Ukrainian crisis,' China has supported communication with the relevant parties, including Ukraine and Russia,” said Lin.

According to the spokesperson, China's efforts in this area are “obvious to the international community,” although specific examples of the country's successful participation in peace processes have not been provided. Lin assured that Beijing will continue to support any initiatives that help achieve peace.

At the same time, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the view that China has no real desire to engage in a peaceful resolution of the conflict. He emphasized that China chooses trade with Russia over a peaceful track. Today, China is the largest importer of Russian energy resources and an important financial 'donor' to the Russian military machine.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalenko, also notes that China benefits from the continuation of the war in Ukraine. This allows Beijing to gain a weakened and dependent Russia and contributes to Europe's exhaustion. In the long term, China has a broader vision than short-term gains.

Thus, China's position in the conflict around Ukraine remains ambiguous. While Beijing declares its readiness for peaceful negotiations, its economic interests in cooperation with Moscow raise doubts about the sincerity of these intentions. Negotiations with China could become an important element in resolving the conflict, yet their effectiveness will depend on the willingness of all parties to compromise.
