Moldova’s President Warns of Explosive-Laden Russian Drone Threat.
Russian Drone Incident Sparks Security Concerns in Moldova
According to TSN.ua: Authorities in Moldova have responded to a security alert after a Russian drone was discovered near the village of Tudora, raising alarms over national safety. The incident took place in the Ștefan Vodă district, where the unmanned aerial vehicle is believed to have been carrying explosives. Moldovan President Maia Sandu condemned the event as a blatant violation of the country’s airspace and a direct danger to its citizens:
“A Russian drone found today in Moldova’s Tudora village was likely fitted with explosives. This is a grave infringement of our airspace and a threat to our people.” - Maia Sandu
Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the drone posed an immediate risk to civilians. In an official statement, the ministry emphasized:
“This is a serious breach of our airspace and a menace to our citizens.”
It further noted that 'Russia repeatedly violates our sovereignty and endangers the lives of our people.'
Appeal for International Support
Chisinau has called on the global community to respect its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Against this backdrop, the European Union disclosed that Russia plans to deploy 9 million drones in attacks by 2026, having already used over 200 drones in strikes against Ukraine in 2023. These developments have heightened regional security fears.
The discovery of the Russian drone underscores rising tensions in the area, as Moldova strives to safeguard itself amid ongoing threats from Moscow. Notably, the international community—particularly the EU—is closely monitoring the situation, recognizing that the implications extend beyond Moldova’s borders to neighboring countries. Moldova’s response is part of a broader strategy to defend its territorial integrity and strengthen security partnerships internationally.
