Kyiv's Darnytsia Power Plant Damaged and Shut Down in Major Energy Infrastructure Attack.
Kyiv's Darnytsia Heat and Power Plant Targeted
According to TSN.ua: During a large-scale assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on February 3, the Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Kyiv sustained major damage and was forced to cease operations. This facility, which specializes in producing heat for residential use, was a primary target in the Russian strike, leading to severe consequences for the capital's residents. These attacks on power generation are part of a wider campaign that has crippled Ukraine's grid since the war began.
The attack occurred amid frigid temperatures of -25°C (-13°F), drastically worsening the heating crisis. The destruction left approximately 1,100 residential buildings in Kyiv's Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts without heat. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed that repairs to the plant will require a significant amount of time, likely leading to prolonged hardship for affected citizens.
Impact of the Strike
The bombardment resulted in injuries to six people, two of whom required hospitalization. The assault on Kyiv caused damage across several city districts, heightening anxiety among the population. Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the Darnytsia TPP, a facility dedicated to civilian heating, suffered extensive damage, underscoring the gravity of the attack.

The extreme cold complicates efforts to restore the damaged energy infrastructure and raises the risk of a humanitarian crisis if the situation does not improve swiftly. Kyiv authorities and state agencies are likely exploring alternative solutions to provide heat to residential buildings while repair work on the power plant continues.
