Affordable Medicines Program Gets a Major Update

According to TSN.ua: Starting March 31, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health will expand its Affordable Medicines program by adding 26 new drugs. This update brings the total number of available medications to 621, allowing more citizens to access essential treatments either for free or with a partial co-payment. The program is part of a broader effort to improve healthcare affordability across the country.

Broader Treatment Options for Patients

The updated list also includes 36 medical devices, 32 combination therapies, and 59 types of insulin, significantly widening the range of treatable conditions. Patients can now receive medications for:

  • cardiovascular diseases
  • diabetes
  • respiratory system disorders

The reimbursement budget for 2026 is set at 8.7 billion UAH, a notable increase from 6.9 billion UAH in 2025. Additionally, the government will launch the “Health Screening 40+” initiative in early 2026, further enhancing medical services. Over one million Ukrainians have already been informed about this program through the Diia online platform.

To obtain medications, patients must first consult a doctor to receive an electronic prescription, which they can then take to a pharmacy. For any questions, individuals can contact the Ministry of Health hotline at 0 800 505 201 or the National Health Service of Ukraine contact center at 16-77.

This expansion of Ukraine’s Affordable Medicines program reflects a growing commitment to making healthcare more accessible. With increased funding and new initiatives like Health Screening 40+, the government aims to improve public health outcomes and ensure that vital treatments and preventive care are within reach for all citizens.
