Kyiv resident Anna Karelin spent New Year's Eve in marathon mode: festive dinner, meeting friends, and roast duck. However, just a few minutes after midnight, she realized that the baby decided not to wait.

“We entered the maternity ward at 00:04”, recalls Anna.

Within a few hours, a boy weighing 3600 g and height of 54 cm was born. Now the whole family will celebrate doubly, and they will choose a name from the “top list”: Alan, Alexander or Dmytro.

This is already the second child in the family, as Anna is raising a two-year-old daughter. All family members are “winter ones”, so the tradition has continued.

Doctors at the Kyiv Perinatal Center report that the first baby of 2026, just two minutes after midnight, was a boy.

“There is an opinion that boys are born before the war. But in the last three years, girls have appeared more often. Now we will see how much boys can bring us closer to peace,” shares his observations Deputy Director Oleg Malanchuk.
