The Dispute Between Boris Filatov and Igor Lachenkov

According to TSN.ua: Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has stated that it never received any formal complaints regarding Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov’s criticism of blogger Igor Lachenkov. However, the agency acknowledged that Filatov’s statements may violate ethical standards, while stressing that there is currently no mechanism to hold him accountable.

Filatov reportedly used profanity in comments directed at Lachenkov. In 2024, the NACP sent a letter to the Dnipro City Council and Filatov addressing the use of obscene language. The conflict between Lachenkov and Filatov escalated after March 9, when Filatov mentioned Lachenkov in an interview. In response, on March 12, Lachenkov called Filatov a ‘hog,’ a ‘raider,’ and a ‘looter.’

Reactions and Emotions

Filatov fired back at Lachenkov’s accusations, declaring:

“Listen, Lachen, my ‘hog’ won’t fit in your mouth.” — Boris Filatov

This exchange highlights the emotionally charged nature of the conflict between the two figures. The NACP continues to monitor the situation, but currently lacks the tools to respond to ethical violations that may arise from such public disputes.

This case underscores the challenges of enforcing ethical conduct in the public sphere, especially when conflicts involve government officials and public figures. The absence of clear accountability mechanisms risks further escalating tensions and damaging the reputation of state institutions. As the situation unfolds, the NACP may need to reconsider its approach to ethical standards in public service.
